i gutted this vintage IBM 5160 XT computer. and welded in the supports for a micro ATX motherboard, as well as a ton of other case mods to make it work. and converting the old 5¼ floppy drive to a slot-loading dvd burner was the finishing touch to my XT project. i used a slot-loading Panasonic UJ-845 DVD-RAM drive with a “jae to ide adapter”. to make it work on a home computer. i also had to reroute the led and eject button from the DVD to the faceplate of the old floppy drive. lots of work, but I’m very happy with the results.

Dvd burner???
Filed Under (dvd burner) by admin on 17-02-2010
I had a question i whant to burn a dvd to a copy but iam not sure how many megabytes should i buy the dvd the original movie is 1 hour and 40 minutes
The question isn’t the DVD size. It’s one size fits all.
The question is what format is the movie, and what do you want to do with it.
Usually movies are stored on your hard drive in .avi, it generally takes only 750Mb for a movie (or 3/4Gb), you can store a half dozen of these on a DVD, but then you could only play it on a computer.
If you need to play it on a DVD player, then you need to author a DVD, or make a bootable copy. This converts the file to .iso (DVD player format) and adds menus. Usually you can store one movie (maybe 2 1/2 hour) per disk.

What writing speed should I use with my Lightscribe DVD burner?
Filed Under (dvd burner) by admin on 17-02-2010
I have a Lightscribe dvd burner that came stock with my desktop computer, for burning DVDs what speed should I use for the best quality? I looked around at other sites and they have results for different burners and in some cases the higher speeds burned the dvds with better quality. So what writing speed would be the best for quality? My burner goes up to 16X.
If your burner burns 16X max, than you usually want to go down lower, to about 8X. The main purpose of this is to prevent errors in the burning process.
