What is the difference between an internal and external DVD drive?

Filed Under (dvd players) by admin on 07-03-2010

Obviously external is outside the computer but how can I buy an internal DVD Drive and install. Someone please tell me the difference?

The difference I believe you are talking about is that the External Drive is most likely going to use a USB or Firewire connection, which connect via inputs in the back panel or the front panel.

Alternatively, internal drives use either a SATA or IDE connection, which connect to the motherboard more or less directly. Instructions for install can be pretty easily found from your computer maker or the drive maker

What’s the difference between blu ray disc and a standard dvd?

Filed Under (dvd players) by admin on 07-03-2010

I have just aquired a large screen tv and I will watch lots of movies on it but should I purchase a blu ray disc player or should I continue with my dvd player? I don’t want to replace my library of dvds.

First off……There IS a huge difference, both in picture and sound. If you have a TV that is capable of showing a 1080P picture then it is well worth the money to get the Blu-Ray Player.

The first guy is correct in saying that a Blu-ray player will play your existing DVD’s, but what he left out is that IF you have the blu-ray hooked up to your TV using an HDMI cable then you can set the unit to play only at 1080P which will also make you regular DVD’s look better. Obviously they won’t look as good as the Blu-ray disc.
For those people that can’t see the difference…….chances are there is a problem with the setting on your unit, or they are not using the right cables, or the movie that they are watching was converted to blu-ray (HD) format instead of being recorded in it to begin with. Until this year almost every movie was shot with a standard def movie camera and then converted to HD. Now most movies are being shot in HD from the get go.

What Is the difference between Blu-Ray and HD DVD?

Filed Under (dvd players) by admin on 06-03-2010

I just got a PS3 and I do NOT have an HDTV, so if I bought a Blu-Ray/HD DVD, would it still sound like an HD DVD without and HDTV? Plus, what is the difference between Blu-Ray and HD DVD? Thanks!

If you do not have a HD TV then there will be no difference between a normal dvd and a HD/Blu Ray dvd. You need a HDTV to see the difference in quality , And i have to say a HDTV with a PS3 makes one hell of a difference , everything is much clearer and brighter and colourfull , and thats at 720p.

The main difference between HDDVD and Blu-Ray would be the fact that HDDVDs store up to 30gbs and Blu-Ray stores up to 50gb and can be used for games aswell , They are also created by different companys , Toshiba and Hitachi created HD DVD , Sony and Philips created Blu-Ray , Different film companys are support the different formats with only 1 or 2 supporting them both which means the range of films that appear on Blu-Ray will vary to the range of Films that appear on HD DVD , Blu-Ray would probably have more of a choice of films since more film companys are supporting it.

is it possible to use my laptops dvd drive to load software onto another computer?

Filed Under (dvd players) by admin on 06-03-2010

My g/f has an acer one with no optical drive. Instead of buying her an external dvd drive would I be able to connect her computer to mine and install software using my laptop?

Yes if the computers are in the same network and your DVD drive is shared. You will access your DVD from network and install stuff as usual.

If you don’t know how to create a network between the 2 computers :

Connect both computers using a crossover cable.
Put both computers in the same Network Group ( assign the same name to the network group for both of them )
Go to My Network Places/ Properties / select Network Connection /Properties / select TCPIP / Properties
Select Use the following IP address and complete them as follows:
IP: 192.168.7.1
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
for the first one and
IP: 192.168.7.2
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
for the second computer, then OK.

Open Start/ Run and type cmd for command prompt window.
Type ping 192.168.7.2 from the first computer and see if you receive response. If so, then you are all set and network is set up.
